Just another day

Inception

Unless you have been living in the netherworld for the past two years, I believe you must have watched Batman Begins and The Dark Knight both of which are Christopher Nolan’s works. Though these two movies are excellent movies, I would like to remember him as the guy who made Memento or at least so until his next, Inception. The plot of movie is being kept under the wraps but the trailers have already convinced me that it’s a great film and most probably as complex as Memento. I also get a feeling that the two batman movies are really his stopgap films. Read the rest of this entry »

Hyderabad in Turmoil

with one comment

Its hard not to notice. In midst of all that is happening and all that has happened, I start to wonder whether we are Indians only when the rest of the world tells us so. We are Indians when few Australians abuse us, we are Indians when India beats Sri Lanka and so on.

For every other purpose, we are a lot other things but not Indians.  We are Hindu/Muslim, Telangana/Andhra, Maratha/Rest, North/South, and what not. I mean if you belong to so many groups you should feel glad. But in India, this seems more a bane than a boon. And what more, our politicos do a good job reminding us of these facts time and again.

As for the current situation, I am not sure which day is a bandh (this is illegal but wont be dealt with because this is necessary for all parties) and when the section 144 is on. I am also not quite sure what KCR means by saying that he is open for discussion while also iterating that there is no other alternative to Telangana. The issue, however, should be resolved soon one way or the other.

One-Eighty

with 3 comments

Putting it blatantly, this is an update post which like always will hopefully play out as a filler post which promises the return to the blogging world or am I back already? So now that we are done with the PJ, I have been thinking of writing a post for quite some time now and to say that I didn’t have time would be incorrect but then writing it wasn’t one of my urgent priorities in life. So while I still remain in this obscure and possibly oblivious world of getting my priorities right as It is still not clear as to what needs prioritizing. Let me begin with talking about a colleague who did a one-eighty in a matter of two days regarding thoughts about marriage as it seems to be urge to get married rather than a need.. hmm… need? Working wife or not suddenly seems to be a million dollar question for him, downright crucial and quintessential as it is that which is going to shape the rest of his life. For me question of marriage or commitment though very early seems to give me jitters. In lieu of my earlier stance on this matter which quite a few might be aware of, I now stand looking at the other direction – way too selfish. Or so the last year has shaped my thinking. Irrespective of what I think, what I want or what I wanted to happen didnt happen, sadly.

Then there’s cricket. No, not the England tour or the CL. Just the local cricket, the indoor one. We used to play it a lot in Kadamba Nivas, is that what they are calling it now? And not to mention, there were times when we played cricket where the Himalayan Range now stands. So yeah indoor cricket taking one night of the weekend. Its fun. Now thinking about it we played football in Kadamba Nivas with a smaller ball and not to mention there were legs cracking, literally. I knew of one – Lean, Lanky and later Limper, though no more a limper. Ah! now the memory lane seems a freeway.

Job’s been sluggish. Nothing moving. Not even that redundant work. Or that redundant discussions over lunch – Dhoni vs Dravid? The battle of two fans. Its like that Bill Murray movie where he lives the same day over and over.

There is of course an internal Cricket Tourney in my company being planned and a pretty close friend EB is its organizer. If that doesn’t help you what will? My team is quite bloated, with words more than talent, unseen. Since the words are strong, the team on paper looks pretty strong. So I shall stick to the same responsibilities I have in the company, that of Support. The last line would make sense to few and to them, its humor. And for the rest, its a bad PJ.

PJ to end the post. Hopefully back with the story, which I write of but have not written.

The Week Looking Back

with 3 comments

How do you describe a tough and boring week? I am assuming that after reading my last post you would understand what an on-call is. It was my turn this week. And if my services were a person, I would ask “How do you know that I am on-call? Are you psychic or something? I sure didn’t code that in.” So there are things that tag along with the responsibility of baby-sitting your services – You can’t go out for long periods of time, especially for that match against IIIT, for you never know when that horrible SMS is going to come in. And add to my woes an SMS late night at 1.30 am from a new TV channel three days in a row. Its not marketing in my terms.

So I sit at home alone and all I am left to are these TV shows that I have started downloading on my own. Its a good list – Fringe, Heroes, Life on Mars, Prison Break, Sanctuary, Smallville, Supernatural and The Mentalist. One or two almost everyday, I thought fairly enough to keep myself busy. I remember writing on few TV shows sometime back but few more shows have added after that post. Life on Mars is definitely an interesting show. Its a remake of a hit UK original so there are comparisons and all those stuff that happens. Some have butchered it but its a must watch because the idea is interesting and if not the remake, go for the original. As for Sanctuary, it comes on Sci-Fi channel so you can guess what kind of a TV show it is. If I were to shorten my list, this would go first. But as the week progressed, the TV shows weren’t enough to survive.

Now this is when I landed up in a discussion with a friend on what a person should do when he is bored. Most of them read. I prefer thinking. Reading is always good because you more or so learn new things as you go on reading stuff. It was something I couldn’t debate. Thinking can be good if done properly otherwise it could corrupt an individual. Daydreaming does that. Sadly, I am a daydreamer and I cant control it much. But yes, I have picked up some books recently mainly fiction because I get bored with non-fiction. Non-fictions gives me the feeling of reading a school text book. Its better discussed than read especially when its that long.

Coming to books, my luck ran out when I purchased A Painted House and You are Here. The first one was excruciatingly slow. I am surprised that it came from John Grisham. I dropped it mid-way and went to the next one which started off brilliantly. Given the first three pages, I assumed it was a cant-put-it-down novel. But as the story progressed, I read 5-10 pages every stint. Unlike my earlier observation, it turned out to be a cant-pick-it-up novel. There was this another book The Righteous Men by Sam Bourne which was of the The Da Vinci Code genre. It was okiesh read given that it had lesser ‘revelations’ and I had no clue where it was headed until I was through half of it.

That’s all of my week, one tough and boring week. I skipped the tough part in my post to make it easier for you guys :P A poor one, I know. I did do some cooking but that doesn’t truly make a post like a lot others I have seen in the recent posts. Probably you will see a 3-post story soon enough on my blog, so keep waiting. Adios.

Who is Sarah Palin?

with 5 comments

Sarah Palin is the vice-presidential candidate for the Republicans in this year’s Presidential Elections. So why about her, why now? I really dont have an answer for that. I was going through the list of new non-fictions at Amazon and I found a book on her. I asked myself, Who is Sarah Palin?

Two time mayor of Wasilla and the governor of Alaska seems to be an interesting choice for the vice presidential candidate in the Republican line-up this year provided that most of what we Indians hear about the US Presidential Elections is on Barrack Obama. McCain (Republican’s presidential candidate) says people of US shouldn’t be afraid of Obama, not sure what that meant. To me Sarah Palin seems to be a poor choice albeit an interesting one. While I see her as an reformist, I get a “feeling” that she has more flaws than claws. She has made popular and radical changes yet she has been in center of quite a few controversies. Some have suggested that her being a conservative Christian has reflected on some of her choices – The flaws being with the choices and not the religion. But the biggest flaw I think is that she adds the “personal” factor into politics, which is not good at all. She has been on the right side of few “very public” issues which might have helped her cause in becoming the candidate.

The previous text was to build an overview of what I wanted to share – few videos on her.

Matt Damon on her, Sarah Palin on Financial Crisis, A Parody Trailer on Sarah Palin, Some Comic moments on her.

I guess this is going to happen with all political figures so just take it in that sense.

Overall, She could become Obama’s “Ace in the hole” these Elections.

PS: I am neither Obama’s fan nor against the Republicans. But I am sure there will be lots of people who are better than her.
